The Daily Show Ignores Puerto Rican's Boycott Against 'La Comay'
In this Oct. 17, 2012, a TV show called La Comay (roughly translated to "The Godmother"), is seen on a TV set in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This five-foot tall puppet with outlandish red lips, a shrill voice and a penchant for salacious details rules Puerto Ricos gossip circuit, with legions tuning into her show every afternoon ready for the latest bombshell. And La Comay dishes it out with ominous music playing in the background, talking about everyone from Mexican crooner Luis Miguel to Puerto Ricos own Miss Universe beauty queen Zuleyka Rivera. Last night on The Daily Show, correspondent Wyatt Cenac filed his last report ever with a segment from Puerto Rico about WAPA-TV’s “SuperXclusivo” show, which has recently faced a very public boycott after the show’s puppet host, La Comay, made comments about dead publicist José Enrique Gómez. Advertisers continue to pull out from the show, as shown by this image taken from the Boicoit La Comay page. The Facebook page has gotten over 70,000 likes in about eight days.
