A politician who could potentially be banned from entering the U.S. under Donald Trump’s policies is urging the president elect to “bring divided communities back together.”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan is Muslim, a group that Trump has pledged to ban from entering the U.S. Though Trump later indicated that he could be an “exception” to this ban, Khan has been critical of the future president’s attitude toward a religion that comprises 1.6 billion people worldwide.

“It’s no secret that I’m no fan of Donald Trump or the way he has conducted his campaign,” Khan said on Wednesday, according to the Evening Standard. “But he has clearly won the US presidential election. The campaign divided America and the world and emotions are understandably running high. I hope Donald Trump will now do everything in his power to unite people and bring divided communities back together. I wish him well.”

Khan became London’s mayor in May after fending off racist and Islamophobic attacks from his opponents. The United Kingdom’s former Prime Minister David Cameron accused Khan of sympathizing with the Islamic State militant group ― a move straight out of Trump’s playbook.

Khan, who has long expressed support for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, tweeted Tuesday afternoon that “I hope she does [win.]”
