The New Orleans-bashing continues apace. (Full disclosure: I live in that city part time. I know all its problems and weaknesses, thanks.) In Sunday's Los Angeles Times, Joel Kotkin prescribes the medicine New Orleans needs: be more like Houston. Really. In case you think the author of The City: A Global History doesn't know what he's talking about, check this sentence:

Even a rebuilt, reconfigured Latin Quarter would no doubt seem more Anaheim than anti-bellum.

Of course, the Latin Quarter is in Paris, last time I looked, but it reinforces the guy's global reach. Damn, why did I neglect to write my "New York is too rude" column a week after 9/11?
