A Response to Sally Pipes
By using vaccines, we've been able to eradicate such diseases as smallpox, polio and measles. But the mercury used for decades as a preservative in the vaccinations is poison, pure and simple.

Environmental justice is about protecting the people who live next to our power plants, oil refineries, manufacturing plants, incinerators, and waste treatment facilities.
Eating is an experience, and when you know that what you are eating lived a short and miserable existence because of you it kind of ruins the taste of your food.
Despite this country's dire situation, health care doesn't win elections, because health care problems never feel as immediate as other threats.
The cause of my son's asthma may have been me. I may have been poisoning my own son by using certain cleaning products.

If, like most, you have been paying attention to the economy, politics, or the spin that politicians are placing on what is happening at national and global levels, then you're probably stressed out. Your mind reels. It's simply too much.
While the financial crisis has appeared to knock health care off the national agenda, in the strange chemistry that is American politics, it may make comprehensive health care reform more politically feasible.
When I got my first tattoo at age 16, I pretty much knew I'd want it gone by 30.
The case is clear: America is heading toward a fiscal tsunami. Surviving this wave will involve monumentally more than just shoring up the three key retirement pillars of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

And please don't forget the radiation! The strongest external radiation source (after discounting for unavoidable items like the universe and your house) in your life is your spouse. The potassium 40 in their bones adds a fraction of a millirem to your annual radiation exposure if you happen to share a bed. Of course, you get a lot more from your own bones.... but again... deboning is, at least not yet, an acceptable cosmetic surgery procedure...

Who knew? Thanks. Slightly off topic, but I had a couple questions for you: Did you reread my profile? Any Specific errors you see?
You wrote 100k FDIC, It's 250K now, right?
This is an old physics joke with a sliver of truth to it. The first time I heard it I was surprised that it makes a measurable difference. But it does. If you stand next to the right type of radiation detector, you can see the count rate go up ever so slightly (but a cheapo Geiger-Muller counter won't do, you need professional equipment for this kind of measurement).
I did not read your profile lately. In the past I thought you were grossly under-representing the cost for renewable energy. I think you were claiming something on the order of $1 trillion, whereas I get more on the order of tens of trillions, if I plug in realistic numbers.
Let me put it this way: if we lay off the war making and international policing and if we agree to pay slightly higher taxes (especially on energy), we can do all of this stuff and clean our environment. It's just not a trivial effort. And I believe people need to understand that. They need to know that an American household will have to spend $1000/year or more on this thing instead of sending the money to Canada, Mexico and OPEC in return for oil. And even if we do all the right things it will take many decades to clean house. It is a big house, after all.
