Naomi Sims blazed a trail as one of the first African American supermodels. The 5' 10" dark skinned goddess broke through the fashion industry color barriers to become an icon of beauty and style. She modeled for major advertising campaigns and was a favorite of fashion designers Halston, Bill Blass and Giorgio St.Angelo. On the vanguard of the "Black is Beautiful" movement, Naomi graced many magazine covers. After she retired from her modeling career, Naomi became a successful business woman with her own wig and beauty empire. She penned three books All About Health and Beauty for the Black Woman, How to Be a Top Model and All About Success for the Black Woman. In 2009 Naomi pass over at the tender age of 61 from breast cancer. Her fashion achievements paved the way for beauty entrepreneurs to come.
